The 3rd European Headache and Migraine Trust International Congress, held in September 2012, was a premier international event for neurologists, physicians, scientists, researchers, and international experts and healthcare professionals with an interest in migraine and headache disorders.
The aim of this series of Congresses is to provide a better understanding of migraine, trigeminal autonomic cephalalgias and other headache disorders worldwide and to give participants the opportunity to gather new scientific evidence and understanding for improving diagnosis and treatment for patients.
This year, the Year of Headache of the International Association for the Study of Pain, was highlighted with two special lectures from absolute world leaders in pain research, and the four-day programme continued to build on its basic and clinical science content by covering the latest available research, therapies, and developments from internationally acclaimed leaders in the field.
Among the key features of EHMTIC2012 were:
- Poster presentations and chaired discussions with an emphasis on interaction across seven sessions
- New Scientist lectures that featured the best of our developing researchers, who presented the absolute cutting edge of current research
- Teaching Courses scheduled prior to the start of the main programme that offered focused updates for primary care practitioners and others with a special interest in the field of headache; an educational case-based interactive session aimed at clinical staff to update their knowledge and learn about new therapies; and a course aimed at trainees interested in novel techniques and developments in migraine research.
- A session organised by The International Headache Society Primary Care Group and British Association for the Study of Headache (BASH) General Practitioners with special interest in headache group reviewed the key papers in primary care and discussed the areas in which the primary care research effort should focus including policy guidance for the management of headache in schools.
- Sponsored satellite symposia, an important part of the programme, featured the latest developments from our healthcare industry partners.
The meeting closed with a public session for patients with migraine and headache disorders, which provided an overview of the Congress presentations.
The International Scientific Advisory Committee would like to express its grateful thanks to the exhibitors and generous sponsors of the Congress, the EHMTIC Board, the Migraine Trust, the EHF Board, the abstract reviewers, session chairs, the presenters who shared their research and experience, and to our delegates, for their ongoing support of the Congress.
Yours sincerely,
